Father’s day weekend was a good one for the Junge Model T’s Granny Basketball team at the Senior Olympics in Des Moines. Saturday morning started with Granny games in pool play, the Model T’s, Classic Chassis and CarX formed the car pool division. In the first game the Model T’s played Classic Chassis, winning 51-27. Leading the scoring was Kathy Sankey with 19 points and Colette Cook with 12. Game two featured the T’s against CarX, fate was not with the T’s for that game with too many turnovers and the T’s lost 38-27. The leading scorer with 16 points was Colette Cook.

Sunday morning, after a late night of competitive game of spoons; brought an early arrival to the gym where the T’s learned we had a bye. We found games running behind schedule, with finally playing at 1:30pm. The T’s took on the Dubuque Courtside Cuties who we handled easily with stellar defense of Becky Ditch and Colette Cook. At halftime the switch was made for Colette Cook and Julie Bliss, with Colette scoring 13 points and Julie pulling down valuable rebounds. Kathy Sankey led the scoring with 27 points. The T’s won 52-27.

The only obstacle of the T’s final game to determine the winner of the gold in the “B” division was the Ankeny Honeybees. After an early back and forth battle the Model T’s was able to pull away in the third quarter after tremendous play by all three courts. The team effort led to the gold medal with a score of 53-41,. Kathy Sankey lead the scoring with 31 and Julie Bliss chipped in 22 points. Coach Diana Lamphier’s brilliant guidance led the Model T’s to the gold medal.

Team members include: Kathy Sankey, Julie Bliss, Colette Cook, Marj Beatty, Diana Lamphier, Teresa Kuhn, Kay Kubik, Donna Bean, Delores Rawson, Carol Daubs, Becky Ditch, Judy White, Arlene Wear, Mary Jane Gustoff. All but Carol Daubs are in the team photo.
