Annette Merchant of Vinton is running a half Marathon for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society in Des Moines this fall, and invited area residents to a fund-raising car wash on Saturday, June 14.

The event raised more than $700 for the Society.

Merchant thanked her family for helping and all of the people who came to donate, share some food and have their cars washed for her cause.

The car wash took place place at Roosters Detailing, 410 H Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, June 14. Hot dogs and lemonade will be offered at the free-will offering event.

All proceeds will go toward the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Annette has several friends facing leukemia or lymphoma, and has been on the Blood Marrow Donor Registry for many years. She had raised $1,200 of the $1,500 minimum needed; the success of Saturday's event means she has now completed her fund-raising.

"This is a great place to make a difference," says Annette, who is running alone in this event. She ran the half-marathon at George Wyth State Park near Waterloo last year, and plans to participate in that event again this autumn.

"I will be running two half-marathons within one month," she says.

To donate, contact Annette at 319-202-8461, or contact her via Facebook.
