The Vinton-Shellsburg Union (VSU) Special Olympics athletes met at Berry's Lanes Saturday to attempt to qualify for the State Special Olympics bowling event.
This year, the VSU was allowed to bowl at Berry's Lanes; in previous years they had to go to Cedar Rapids.
Steve Berry offered the club a discount; fund-raisers held throughout the year help cover the cost of such events, said coach Tammy Zimmerman.
This year's participants include: Zach Kramer, Josh White, Marissa Yessak, Dani Koopman, Mikey Malmgren, Sage Holmes, Ryan Lane, bottom front- Beau Vinton, Nikole Bascom.
Zimmerman said that the bowler's scores will be sent to the state organization. Those who qualify will be notified later.
