A concrete flood barrier is taking shape around the sewer system's lift station near the river.

One of the challenges facing VInton city officials during the flood of 2008 was the flooding of the lift station, which complicated the efforts to relieve the pressure on the city's sewer system.

A concrete flood barrier is now being built around the lift station, which is located just west of the new Veterans Park along the Cedar River.
