$7.8 Million in Grants to Help Connect Iowans to Critical Services
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) today announced $7.8 million for 17 projects that will improve public transportation for people with disabilities, older adults, and low-income individuals. The grants support organizations that coordinate public transportation for underserved groups, allowing them to access healthcare, community services, education, and jobs by building partnerships among health, transportation, and human services providers.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program with a successful 2023 tax season.
This year, VITA prepared and filed over 1,800 refunds throughout two counties and seventy-nine cities, bringing back over $2.

Recently Mark and LuAnn Urlaub took a trip to honor LuAnn’s uncle, an uncle she never met. "Mark and I wanted to learn more about my Uncle Marvin A. Kraus' service and see the places that Dad spoke of." Marvin's brother, LuAnn's father, entered the Army after Marvin's death so the two men's mother did not have an easy go of it during World War II. Benton County Primary Election Results
On Tuesday, June 4, 2024 Benton County Residents voted for their choice of candidates that will be voted on in November's Election. Of the 18,644 registered voters, only 2,439 ballots were cast, or 13.08%. For Sheriff, residents chose between the two Republican candidates Dave Upah with 1,618 votes to Ted Paxton's 529 votes with no candidates from the Democratic Party or Libertarian Party. He purchased his winning ticket at Casey’s, 5350 31st Ave. in Urbana, and claimed his prize Monday at the lottery’s Cedar Rapids regional office.
