       Back in 2007, Vinton was Ground-Zero for the run-up to the 2008 Iowa Caucuses. I don’t know what it was, but back when we were running The Vinton Eagle (that we founded, but never get credit for), it seemed like about all we did was talk to presidential candidates.

Wesley United Methodist Church seeking donations

The Wesley United Methodist Church which holds a Food Pantry at their church is seeking donations of jams and jellies for the month of January. You are welcome to drop off any donations at the church which is located next to the library.

Thursday morning found a load of hogs on their way to market, we assume. The semi driver took a detour into the ditch on 22nd Ave. Trail, aka the Mt. Auburn road just south of   Kersten's light display.

Update:12/27/19This morning at about 10:42 AM, divers from the Johnson County Dive Team recovered the body of Shannan Lee Hughes, age 47, of rural Vinton IA, at a private pond located at 6235 33rd Ave Dr, Shellsburg IA.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office have seen an increase in the number of thefts from parked cars. In many cases the vehicles were left unlocked and thieves simply helped themselves.

On 12-24-2019, at about 10:00 PM, The Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a reckless driver on Hwy 30 near 30th Ave. The vehicle reported to have been driving recklessly was reported to have turned south towards Norway IA.
