       Back in 2007, Vinton was Ground-Zero for the run-up to the 2008 Iowa Caucuses. I don’t know what it was, but back when we were running The Vinton Eagle (that we founded, but never get credit for), it seemed like about all we did was talk to presidential candidates.

Wesley United Methodist Church seeking donations

The Wesley United Methodist Church which holds a Food Pantry at their church is seeking donations of jams and jellies for the month of January. You are welcome to drop off any donations at the church which is located next to the library.

Body recovered from area pond

Update:12/27/19This morning at about 10:42 AM, divers from the Johnson County Dive Team recovered the body of Shannan Lee Hughes, age 47, of rural Vinton IA, at a private pond located at 6235 33rd Ave Dr, Shellsburg IA.

Help Prevent Car Break-ins

Benton County Sheriff’s Office have seen an increase in the number of thefts from parked cars. In many cases the vehicles were left unlocked and thieves simply helped themselves.
