Caucus Voter Information
We have had several questions come into our office about Caucuses and Voter Registration:You have to be registered to vote to participate in the Caucuses. If you are unsure if you are registered to vote you can go onto the Secretary of State's website: https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterreg/regtovote/search.aspx However this only states if you are registered to vote, it does not disclose how you are registered to vote.
VSCS FFA Chapter Selected as $1,900 Growing Together Initiative Recipients
The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter will receive funding through an “FFA Growing Together” specialty block grant sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS). The funds will increase the school district’s access to specialty food crops (examples: fruits, vegetables, nuts or herbs) and build a stronger relationship between the FFA chapter and the school’s food service program.

Planning in Early Stages for Iowa’s Ride
If you missed the announcement before Thanksgiving, Vinton has been chosen to be an overnight stop for Iowa’s Ride. The inaugural Iowa's Ride will go from Dubuque to Rock Rapids on its 416-mile journey across the state. The ride will take place July 12-18, 2020.The riders will begin arriving in Vinton on the afternoon of Monday, July 13 and will depart throughout the morning on Tuesday, July 14th.
Vinton-Shellsburg Clarifies Goals of the Farm To School Program
The Farm-To-School (F2S) program was created to provide healthy options for students and to achieve that goal by sourcing food locally, and by training school staff to use recipes that include scratch cooking. During a recent training for food service staff, the representative from an organization providing training for scratch meal preparation in institutional foodservice made statements to area media that do not reflect the current policies or intent of Vinton-Shellsburg’s F2S program.
One dead, second injured in near head on collision on Wednesday
On 01-15-2020, at about 2:00 PM, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident on 77th St, east of 26th Ave in Benton County, about 4 miles west of Norway IA. Deputies found a near head on collision between 2 vehicles. One of the drivers, a 21-year-old male from Blairstown IA, was found to be deceased due to injuries sustained in the collision.
