Maren Redlinger and her horse Ruger are having a memorable time at the Iowa State Fair Maren Redlinger and her horse Ruger won Champion Gelding halter and Reserve Grand Champion Halter overall at the Iowa State Fair! Kassie Kenny and Shelby McDonald are also in attendance and having good shows as well. 

Benton County Historical Society makes decision to sell the Ray House

The Benton County Historical Society struggles with supporting the properties they own in the area, as well as finding volunteers to support the efforts of the group. To date, the Benton County Historical Society owns three properties which include the Train Depot, the Horridge House and the Ray House.As part of the need to downsize, the organization has decided to list the Ray House for sale at a price tag of $150,000.

Iowa's Annual Tax Sale Holiday this Weekend

This yearly holiday is held the first Friday and Saturday of August.Please Be Aware That...Iowa Code section 423.3(68)(a)(2) states the sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ending at 12:00 am midnight the following day.The holiday does not include Sunday.Businesses that are open on these days are required to participate.

COVID-19 Case update, 46 Active cases in Benton County

IIn the U.S. to date, there have been 4,823,890 cases, with 158,250 deaths with a rate of 48.37 per 100,000 people, or a 3.3% case fatality according to John Hopkins as of Friday, August 7, 2020 at 12:11 a.m.Benton County cases of COVID has reached 146 total cases since March.Of the 146, 100 have recovered, leaving 46 active cases in the county (there has been one death of an 83 year old man from Blairstown in early April.

Vinton Community Foundation Awards Old School Produce and Be You Bravely

Vinton Community Foundation with one of the Award recipients Be You  Bravely The Vinton Community Foundation presented Old School Produce Partners—a 501-c-3 Non Profit with a grant on Monday August 3rd, 2020 to assist with the costs of running the garden which grows and distributes fresh produce to local food pantries in our community. Present at the presentation of the check were Eileen Schmidt, Greg Walston, Nathan Hesson (VCF Director), Emily Reisch, Barb Ender-Wright, Wayne Shannon, John Kemp, and Janet Woodhouse (VCF Director).

Vinton Adventists Community Opens in New Location

The Community Services provided by the local Seventh Day Adventist Church has moved to a new location. Now found at 5071st Ave, next door to the Benton County Extension Office, the organization gives away free of charge, clothing and shoes for adults and children as well as, bedding and a few household items.Formerly located across from the laundromat, the organization has seen several moves in its history which began in the spring of 1996.

Are you ready to Party in the Park?

Vinton Parks and Recreation under the guidance of Matt Boggess is going to blow your socks off again this weekend for Vinton's abbreviated Party in the Park. This Saturday, August 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. there will be your classic rock, folk and blues music by, Empty Pockets. The fun will as always be at Riverside Park.Simply bring along your own chair or blankets to sit on.

Party in the Park Vision of the Future

The little guy in the orange was feeling the beats during Empty Pockets at Party in the Park Party in the Park was definitely a much smaller and shorter event this year. Social distancing circles were mapped out across Riverside Park, and limited vendors served the crowd of between 150-200 residents. While the theme was "Vision of the Future" I think we're all hoping that 2020 wasn't a glimpse of what's to come!The Empty Pockets were entertaining and shared their music with the crowd.

High-Voltage Transmission Structures and Lines to be inspected by Helicoptor

ITC Midwest released information to inform the community that they will be conducting aerial patrols of high-voltage transmission structures and lines throughout its service territory from approximately August 4th through the 17th, weather permitting. Helicopter patrols will be providing an overall status of the overhead transmission system owned and operated by ITC Midwest.

Vinton Lions Club Appoints New Officers

The Vinton Lions Club held an installation ceremony for the 2020-21 offiers on Wednesday Wednesday afternoon the Vinton Lions Club appointed new officers for the 2020-2021 year.The Lions Club is a service organization working in the Vinton Community. You can see them often in the Lions Club trailer at the Farmers Market, and they will also be at the Party in the Park. The Club is made up of community members who work and lead in various positions in the community.
