The Cinch High School National Finals Rodeo has placed Bailey Weeks, a senior at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on the Iowa National High School Rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyoming, July 17-23 to compete at the 74th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo in the girls cutting and goat tying competitions.Featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 44 states, five Canadian Provinces, Austrailia, Mexico and New Zealand, the NHSFR is the world's largest rodeo.

Annabelle Newton, the daughter of Chad and Kim Newton has been crowned the Benton County Fair Queen for 2022. Newton also has a younger sister Sophia at home. The family live outside of Vinton on a family farm. A junior at Vinton-Shellsburg High School, she hopes to study business or physical therapy following graduation. She has been part of the Jackson Better Farmers 4-H Club for 8 years, and has exhibited swine, rabbit, and static projects during her time in the club.

Organizers are pleased to announce that the 2022 Party in
Pink 5K held this past weekend raised over $10,000. The beneficiary of these
donations is the Gifts of Hope Program, which offers financial support for
breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The event brought 302
registered participants to Vinton’s Riverside Park on Friday evening for the
in-person event.

At a mere 90+ degrees the annual Party in the Park kicked off with the community meal provided by Farmers Savings Bank. Followed by the kiddie parade through downtown Vinton. The parade ended on the courthouse lawn where music was provided by Tyler Sean Entertainment, and games along with bouncy toys and balloon making and several other games and entertainment for kids were provided.

Every year following events like Party in the Park, Vinton Parks and Rec searches for those perfect pictures snapped from their events to use in promoting Vinton and the department. Usually Vinton Today will drop off a disk or direct them to albums of pictures for their use. Vinton Parks and Recreation isn't known for letting the grass grow under their feet! They announced that B.L. Anderson park now has the brand new basketball hoops up and they are "ready for action!"Also happening on Thursday, was the removal of the damaged park equipment at Riverside Park. Pickering Backhoe Service of Keystone took down the equipment to the entertainment of some of the area children at the park.

Legionnaires from across Benton County took time out to lay a new wreath at Benton County's Highway 30 Memorial. The new wreath was lovingly created, adding new flowers and ribbon by Sue Herman of Shellsburg.The Legion members on hand to lay the wreath was Vince Barloon and John Grieder of Belle Plaine, Doug Anderson of Newhall and Jay Herman of Van Horne.
