The City of Shellsburg is participating in an assessment concerning our housing needs. ISU Extension is facilitating this process and has developed a survey for our community. Broad community input is needed from current residents, anyone working in Shellsburg and prospective residents. The brief survey will take just a few minutes to complete, but your ideas and concerns are important and we encourage you to fill it out.

Now is your opportunity to honor your mentors and role models! The Wallace and Beverly Winkie Foundation is accepting nominations for Stars Over 70. Stars Over 70 is a celebration of those individuals in the Belle Plaine area who are at least 70 years of age and are leaders in their community through volunteering, working, or serving as role models.
Iowa Workers Get Free Tax Preparation Assistance
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces free tax preparation assistance for Iowans with low-to-moderate income, Iowans who are elderly, and Iowans with disabilities. Assistance is available at tax assistance sites throughout Iowa.Funding for this initiative comes from a two-year grant through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant program.
Benton SWCD Holding Conservation Poster Contest for Students
The Benton Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is hosting a local poster contest for students in grades K-12. Posters must reflect the contest theme, One Water. This theme must be included on the poster. Deadline to submit posters is Friday, April 28. Posters must be submitted, along with the Poster Contest Entry Form, to the Benton SWCD office at 1705 W D St Vinton, IA Students who participate in the poster contest are divided into five divisions.
Following Marengo Fire, 3 area Departments to have gear replaced by the State
Iowa Homeland Security will be paying over $600,000 to replace firefighting equipment and gear that was damaged in the Marengo explosion which happened on December 8, 2022. The company C6-Zero which owns the plant refused to pay for the replacement costs.More than 20 departments that responded to the incident needed to replace gear that was ruined by both diesel fuel and solvents stored at the plant.
Individual District Speech Contest to be Held at Union
Union Community School District is excited to host IHSSA Individual District Speech contest again this year! There will be hundreds of students, coaches, parents and friends throughout the day and they will be hungry.
