Adverse Childhood Experiences

The experiences we have as a child can have a profound impact on us, both positively and negatively. A growing body of research has shown the connection that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have in relation to the development of a wide range of health problems throughout one’s life.What constitutes an ACE is varied, and would include such traumatic events such as abuse (physical, sexual, emotional), neglect, and domestic violence, substance use within the home, divorce or household mental illness.

Iowa Youth Survey: Suicide Risk and E-Cigarette Use Climbing,Alcohol Use Decline

The Iowa Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) 2018 Iowa Youth Survey (IYS) shows in general, underage drinking continues to decline. Alcohol use among Iowa 11th graders was down from 26.4 percent in 2012 to 20.4 percent in 2018. Binge drinking fell from 19.2 percent in 2012 to 12.0 percent in 2018.

While adult consumption of alcohol can be done safely and responsibly, reasonable drinking guidelines are often overlooked in favor of excessive drinking, known as binge drinking.

Tap into the luck of the blood donor this March by rolling up a sleeve to give the gift of life! Remember: what goes around comes around! You never know who in your community will need a lifesaving blood transfusion. Giving blood only takes about an hour and can save the lives of three local people! That’s some good karma to spread.
