Iowa Teen Vaccination Rates Rise

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report finds the immunization rates for Iowa teens rose from 2017 to 2018 and exceed both the regional (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska) and national averages.The 2018 National Immunization Survey measures coverage for the Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough), meningococcal and HPV vaccines among teens aged 13 to 17.

Peer Support Recovery Vinton PRZ located at 811 D Ave. in the access center will meet on Wednesday’s from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.Who we help: Those that in mourning, isolated, depressed, lonely, manic, anxious, angry or anything else.The PRZ is a place for adults living with mental illness. Simply put, this is a fun and safe place to come and socialize with but also gain support from peers.

Breast Cancer Survivors to meet Tuesday, September 3

Breast Cancer Survivors will meet at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 3 in the dining room at Windsor Manor in Vinton. A program will be given by the dietitian of Virginia Gay Hospital. No reservations are necessary; the meal is a $7 donation. Since we are now meeting quarterly, the next meeting won't be until December.

Vaping-related Illnesses Reported among Iowa Young Adults

Several states have recently reported cases of severe respiratory illness among teenagers and young adults with a history of vaping. Reported symptoms include cough, fatigue, dizziness, headache, vomiting and diarrhea, chest pain, and worsening difficulty breathing, sometimes requiring intensive care.
