Gov. Reynolds introduces bill on Iowa mathematics, civics education

By Robin OpsahlFollowing a recent national assessment that found decreases in Iowa students’ mathematics scores, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced legislation Monday to help identify and assist students struggling with math.The bill’s text is not yet available on the Iowa Legislature’s website. A news release from the governor’s office said the measure would require early screening and targeted intervention strategies for K-12 students struggling with math, in addition to providing parents and teachers more resources to aid math instruction.

Hello, Iowa House District 84 from the State Capitol!

Week three is now “in the books”, as the saying goes, voting on the first three bills of the year. Two were passed unanimously, House File 117 and 118. HF117 has a purpose of offering scholarships to National Guard members who seek an educational field approved by the adjutant general from a community college, private or regent institution that will be relevant to their service in the National Guard.

Third Week of the 2025 Legislative Session

 This was a busier week for me at the Capitol, with committees, meetings with constituents, and other legislative responsibilities. On Monday, we started the week with the Rally for Life. Iowa’s pro-life advocates rallied at the state Capitol, highlighting the achievements over the last several years to protect and defend the right to life in the state of Iowa.
