City of Shellsburg Minutes 9-05-239-05-2023 a regular meeting of the Shellsburg City Council was called to order by Mayor Speckner at 6:00pm in the Council Chambers. Roll call was answered by Travis, Vogt, Reeves, Harvey, and Thorkildson. Vogt motioned to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Harvey. All ayes. The garbage hauler was discussed.

Grassley Announces Staff Traveling Office Hours in Benton County
The staff of U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) will hold traveling office hours in 17 Iowa counties during the month of September. Iowans seeking assistance regarding a personal issue with a federal agency or wishing to share views on matters of federal policy may stop by during the scheduled hours. Grassley will be represented by his regional directors, Laney Feight of Des Moines, Jacob Bossman of Sioux City, Rochelle Fuller of Cedar Rapids, Penny Vacek of Davenport and Jonathan Bladt of Council Bluffs.

LaPorte City residents involved in two vehicle accident on country road
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's office reported that on September 2, 2023, 42-year-old Bo Ruzick of La Porte City, IA was traveling north on 253rd Ave towing a camper. Following him was 17-year-old Brock Ruzicka towing a livestock trailer. They were traveling with and behind a non-contact vehicle, which was also towing a camper. The roadway was quite dry and dusty, reducing visibility.
Benton County Auditor encourages Iowans to Register to Vote
Benton County Auditor Hayley Rippel and Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate are encouraging Iowans to celebrate National Voter Registration Month in September by registering to vote. For Iowans who are already registered, it’s important to make sure your information is current. National Voter Registration Day is September 19, 2023.Approximately 90 percent of eligible Iowans are registered to vote.
