The Vinton area Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at noon at The Pizza Ranch.
This week's program was presented by Bob Mahood and Dave Henkel, who spoke about their locally created fishing rods. Also included were rod pieces created by local wood worker, Tom Garwood.
Vinton is fortunate to have such a talented group of craftsmen!
Kiwanis is made up of local business people as well as people who are interested in the community. Our mission is helping youth.
Membership guidelines
Most often, says Kiwanis member Betsy Hadley, someone in the Kiwanis who knows you might invite you, or you can just show up to a meeting and those who feel like they would be a good fit then fill out a membership form. The annual dues include the cost of lunch each week at Pizza Ranch; members are billed quarterly.
Members are asked to attend weekly meetings as well as to help with special projects.
One of the Kiwanis' largest projects is the Easter Egg Hunt at Riverside Park, which has been going on for more than 50 years. The event takes place the Saturday before Easter, at 10 a.m.
For more information about Kiwanis, or membership, contact Ashlyn Christianson at Three Rivers Insurance, or any Kiwanis member for more information.
