On Wednesday, May 1, at 6 PM, Ruth Anne Schneck will share her knitting experiences at Hawkins Memorial Library, La Porte City, with a program and a tulip coaster knitting class. Then on Wednesday, May 8, at 6 PM, she will present a second class teaching participants a kite coaster pattern from her knitting book.

Ruth Anne’s book The Little Garden of Knitted Coasters takes you merrily through the seasons of the year, making knitted coasters for your coffee table or desk. Ruth Anne developed this little knitting book gradually over two years, as she needed new simple patterns to teach to a small group of neighborhood knitters. Starting with winter and following with spring, summer, fall, and Christmas, the book includes 35 coaster patterns, as well as a few placemats and lapel pins. The 80-page spiral bound book has full color pictures and instructions for each coaster.

Those attending may go home with a self knitted Tulip coaster and a free pattern. Supplies to bring are a medium weight (4) yarn (tulip color of your choice), a pair of #5 knitting needles (can also use #5 double pointed for this small project), two small stitch holders, and a row counter.

Individuals are welcome to attend the presentation even if they do not intend to knit. This knitting class is suited those knowing the basic knitting stitch and how to cast on, however, beginners can learn too. Non-knitters can purchase a set of ready-made coasters or a book as a gift. Books will be available for purchase and signing, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the library. Books are discounted at $15.00 for this event. Please sign-up at the library if you plan to attend. For questions, contact the library at 342-3025.
