The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. C4entral Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met at the home of Luanna Hawkins for our Sept. meeting. The program was given by Kristi Shultis on “The usefulness of Herbs.”

At 2pm the President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge.

Seven members and one guest answered roll call from question of favorite herb.

Secretary Joyce Bratten read the minutes from the August meeting. There were no corrections so minutes are approved as read.

Treasurer Connie McClintock gave the treasurer’s report. There were no questions on the treasurer report so it will be filed for audit.

Fran asked members about going to Marshalltown to the Marshalltown Garden Club show on Nov. 3. Cost is $16.00 and members will be leaving at 8:30 am.

Members are to be working on getting new members. Fran introduced her guest Rita or coming to the meeting.

Garden Therapy was held at the Lutheran Home Sept. 18, 2012 at 3:00pm. Those helping were Cam Wood, Joyce Bratten, Luanna Hawkins and Fran Stueck. Residents used fresh garden flowers to make 46 arrangements for their room and others that were unable to help. We had 16 residents who helped make the flower arrangements. Everyone had a very good time.

Monthly news put in paper. Pictures taken at meeting for the historian’s book.

On Sat. Sept. 1, 2012 four members Anne Dake, Cam Wood, Joyce Bratten and Fran Stueck met at 8:30 am to work at the Tilford Outdoor perennial bed, weeding, transplanting and deadheading the flowers. Then they went over to the Blue Star Marker to clean up the flowerbed.

The Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl contest posters rules were delivered to the grade schools.

The nomination committee Joyce, Luanne and Anne accepted the following people for the 4 offices in 2013. They are President Fran Stueck, Vice President Cam Wood, Secretary Connie McClintock and Joyce Bratten as Treasurer. Nadine Wright made the motion to accept the new officers and Luanne seconded the motion. The new officers were voted in and will take office in Jan 2013.

Fran passed a form and members signed up to be hostess for the following months in 2013.

Garden Therapy for Windsor Manor will be on Dec. 6,2012

There will be a Presidents workshop at Manchester on Oct. 15th.

Fran will be attending the Central Region meeting in St Louis, Mo. on Oct 8-10.

There was no more new business so Fran thanked Luanne for hosting the meeting and the delicious snack.
