With the recent increases seen in farmland values, many people are asking "Can I afford to spend $8,000/acre for farmland?" Should I sell or purchase farmland at the present high prices? Making farmland purchase or sale decisions are difficult by the nature of the dollars involved but are extremely difficult during periods of volatile prices for corn, soybeans, and input cost.
Iowa State University (ISU) Extension is offering a Farmland Valuation workshop on August 30th in Mt. Pleasant at the Henry County Extension Office.
Dr. Mike Duffy and Jim Jensen from Iowa State University and Bob Breazeale, a local agricultural banker, will be discussing farmland value trends, the procedure for valuing farmland, and how to look at financing that decision. Participants are asked to pre-register so that they can be sent information on the farm property that will be valued as part of this seminar. They will be asked to view the property in advance of attending the meeting.
The Farm Land Leasing workshop cost is $25 per person. To pre-register call the Henry County Extension Office at 319-385-8126.
