Events and Activities : Free Training Available Through Horizons

We would like to extend this FREE training opportunity to you and anyone you may think would be interested. Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, Happy Time Child Development Center and Benton County Empowerment would like to invite you to join us for the Darkness to Light training to be held on Thursday April 29th from 1pm-4pm, At the Kirkwood Vinton Center 111 West Third St. Vinton

This FREE training will be given by certified staff from the Young Women's Resource Center in Des Moines. The YWRC has joined with a national organization Darkness to Light to provide Stewards of Children, a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults and encourages them to be more courageous about speaking out and acting responsibly to stop child sexual abuse. This training is for any organization that works closely with children and youth. Currently, the Young Women’s Resource Center is the only organization offering this important program in central Iowa. The purpose of the training is to educate and empower adults to recognize and respond effectively to child sexual abuse. The training will take approximately 2½ hours and incorporate three components to support a variety of learning preferences. Three segments consist of a compelling video, individual workbook entries, and group discussions. Please note: The video segment features personal stories from adult survivors, educators, and experts; there are no child testimonies. Each participant will leave with an Attendance Certificate, a “7 Steps to Protecting Our Children” Workbook and Brochure, a Community Resource Guide, Policy Development/Improvement Information, and greater confidence regarding how to recognize, prevent, and respond to child sexual abuse. Continuing Education Credits may also be earned by taking this training. Currently, they are approved through the NASW as Social Work CEUs or Behavioral Sciences CEUs. It is the responsibility of the interested CEU participant to pay the purchase fee at the time of the training.
