Events and Activities : Shellsburg to plant trees to help recover from Derecho Saturday May 8

The Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG)  was awarded a grant from Trees Forever and Alliant Energy for $8,843 to plant trees.   Like so many communities, Shellsburg suffered a great loss of trees due to last year's derecho.    The stipulations of the grant required that the trees be planted in public places like parks and right of way.

On May 8th, community volunteers (FFA, F-H, Firemen, Lion's Club, SACG members) will be gathering at 8:30 in Memorial Park for a demonstration by Trees Forever staff on the proper way to plant trees.    Then volunteers will start planting the 61 trees we'll be obtaining with this grant money.
