Events and Activities : Water Quality day set for June 8 near Dysart

By Vinton Today The Tama Benton Nutrient Reduction Stratergy Committee along with the Iowa Soybean Assn. will be sponsoring a Water Quality & Structural Practices Field Day Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturated buffers are a newer conservation practice aimed at reducing nitrates in water leaving through field tile lines. Saturated buiffers are one of the practices supported by the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Stratergy. The Iowa Soybean Assn. will present some of their research with these structures, as well as water quiality in the area and statewide. There will be a short update on Luze's prairie strip project, questions on cover crops will be answered and information on cost share and other funding for conservation practices will be available. The field day will be held at Al and Ruth Schafbuch's field where a saturated buffer system was installed in December 2015 on a field running tile water into Pratt Creek.
