The Center Point Historical Society annual free band concert will feature Forties tunes in keeping with the Museum’s World War II theme this year. The concert is performed by the Vinton Community Band under the direction of Judy Trygstad.

It will be at 6 p.m. at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum on Sunday, Sept. 7. Guests are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. In case of rain, the concert will be moved into the Trail room of the Depot. The Historical Society will have a fund raising bake sale along with the concert and the Museum with its special Center Point World War II/Home Front displays will be open free.

At its regular July meeting the Society also continued planning the 4th annual Center Point Cemetery Walk which will be Sunday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. Among the dear departed to be portrayed this year are Ida Miller Grubbs, long time CP elementary teacher, and Chuck Oxley, WWII air corps vet with ties to the Enola Gay which dropped the first atomic bomb.

On August 4 the Society hosted John Swanson’s “Over the Top” vintage car tour which stopped in Center Point for a visit to the Museum and supper at the LJL Hall, catered by Center Point Foods. Linda McCann, author of a number of books on Eastern Iowa history, gave the program following the meal.

Historical Society members helping with the event were: Nancy Krapfl, Linda Schlicht, Philip Andersen, Teresa and Dan Scheeler, Sharon Hannen, and volunteer Sheryl Schumacher.
