Homecoming Breakfast Saturday, September 28

A Homecoming Breakfast will be held on Saturday, September 28 from 7-11 a.m. at the VInton Shellsburg High School. Breakfast will include Pancakes, Eggs, Sausage, Biscuits and Gravy, Coffee, Milk, Juice. Cost will be $6 per person. Funds raised will go toward opportunities for Viking Scholars through the GoVS Scholarsips

Honor Flight Scheduled for Septemnber 17

On Tuesday, September 17, 2019 , the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will launch EIHF Flight #37 Since we began operations in 2009, to date, we have transported 3,145 Veterans, plus their guardians to Washington, DC to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. While there, they will visit the WWII, Korean, Vietnam memorials, as well as visit Arlington National Cemetery, and other memorials.

BHCC offers Seniors use of their Revolution building

Seniors who would like to spend the afternoon together enjoying the company of their peers, playing cards or any other activities have been invited to use the Revolution Building located in downtown Vinton. The doors will be open from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

V-S High School to Host Academic Awards Assembly

On Wednesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m., Vinton-Shellsburg High School will be hosting the Academic Awards Assembly in the High School Auditorium. The purpose of this assembly is to recognize students for outstanding academic achievement during the 2018-2019 school year. We will recognize 110 students who achieved a minimum 3.

American Legion to hold Fish Fry September 13

The Vinton American Legion will hold a Fish Fry Fundraiser on Friday, September 13. On the Second Friday of each month the Legion will hold a Fish Fry. Serving will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.Meal will include, Fish Fillet, Baked Beans, Baked Potato or Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Milk and Coffee, Bread and Butter, Cake.

Opiod Conference offered for area First Responders

The Iowa Opioid Conference will give First Responders critical information regarding all aspects of the Opioid Epidemic. This conference will give attendees a multidimensional approach to the Opioid Epidemic and how it relates to Iowa. Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service Providers are encouraged to attend.

Parent Cafe to encourage parents via relationships and support

Parent Cafe is an event held to help parents and encourage them in their relationships with others as well as help them to reduce stress and develop parenting skills. The events are scheduled to take place at the Vinton Pizza Ranch, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. where a meal is provided. Childcare is also available on site.

Center Point Historical Society plans Cemetery Walk

This year and next the Center Point Historical Society’s theme is school and education. The Society’s Center Point Cemetery Walk will be like a school field trip to visit community educators and unofficial teachers from the past.The 9th annual Walk will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. Admission is $5.
