IOWA LINCOLN HIGHWAY ASSOCIATION TO CONDUCT ITS 4TH ANNUAL MOTOR TOUR

       Spring is beginning and there will soon be warmer temperatures, and with that come the sound of classic cars rolling on the open road like the ones that will be cruising on the 4th Annual Iowa Lincoln Highway Association Motor Tour scheduled for August 26-28, 2011.          The motor tour, which is sponsored by the Iowa Lincoln Highway Association, is asking everyone to “Come Join Us “4” A Fun Time”.

'Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans' parade, ceremony tonight

       Area veterans organizations, Boy Scouts and the VSHS band plan to participate in the "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans" parade and ceremony tonight in Vinton.      There will be a parade with the same route as the Lighted Holiday Veterans Parade. Participants should meet at the corner of Second Avenueand West 6th Streetat 6:30 p.

Garrison First Responders plan April 2 dinner/auction

     The Garrison First Responders will hold their annual dinner/live auction benefit this coming Saturday, April 2nd, at the Garrison Emergency Services Building. Doors will open at 4:30pm with serving of the meal to begin at 5:00pm./ The meal includes a choice of pork loin or chicken with potato, salad bar and dessert. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

NRA Safety Course at Izaak Walton

  A National Rifle Association Pistol Safety Course will be conducted April 16th at the Izaak Walton League north of Vinton.   It will be conducted by Russ Glime who has been an instructor for law enforcement and the public for over 37 years.   The Certificate of Completion may be used to acquire a Permit to Carry from your local Sheriff.

'Spring Fling --- UP, UP IN THE AIR' this Sunday

  Central Lutheran School is having a "Spring Fling --- UP, UP IN THE AIR" this Sunday, March 27th from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. We will be having lunch served of grilled porkloin sandwiches, hotdogs, sloppy Joes, sides, cookies & ice cream, drinks for free will offering serving from 11:00 - 2:00. There will be lots of kids games with prizes from 11 - 1:00.

Former Mt. Auburn Postmistress Dorothy Sallee story TODAY at the Palace

Dorothy Salle, at her home in Mt. Auburn, 1983      Dorothy Sallee, born Dorothy Wiegand, from Mt. Auburn, was the youngest of the ten women, age 79 when interviewed.  She had interesting stories to tell about her first husband (Pollock) working on the railroad, and the hardships they and the children endured.  Dorothy later served as a telephone operator when the farms were all on party lines, and then served as Post Mistress of Mt.

PEO Chapter HG to meet March 28

       PEO Chapter HG will meet Monday, March 28th at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Nancy Good.  Betsy Hadley will present the program and Pat Beatty will be co-hostess.
