To celebrate 100 years of the Butter Cow, the Iowa State Fair will display a limited number of concrete "tribute" cows throughout the grounds during the Fair and is giving the public the chance to paint them and win prizes valued at more than $300 for their designs.

To be considered, individuals, clubs and companies are invited to simply complete an application with their proposed paint design. Selected applicants will pay an entry fee, pick-up the cow from the Fairgrounds, paint it, and return the cow to the grounds to be displayed during the Iowa State Fair, August 11-21. Following the Fair, participants get to keep their cows.

Applications are available at www.iowastatefair.org and are due May 31. Selected applicants will be notified by June 15.

A panel of judges will award prizes on originality, creativeness and overall look. Two divisions of cows will be judged during the Fair; professional and novice. (The professional division is for entrants who receive 25% or more of their income from graphic design or art-related work.)

Winners will receive an Iowa State Fair plaque and:

• 1st Place: $150.00 plus 10 Fair admission tickets, 2 parking passes and $40 worth of Fair food coupons

• 2nd Place: $100.00 plus 8 Fair Admission tickets, 1 parking pass and $30 worth of Fair food coupons

• 3rd Place: $50.00 plus 6 Fair Admission tickets, 1 parking pass and $15 worth of Fair food coupons

Participants will receive recognition in a special Fair map, as well as sign recognition next to their cow during the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Two sizes of cows are available: 24" x 24" and 32" x 32". Entry fees are $60 for the small statue and $100 for the large statue. Quantities are limited.
