Midwest Harvest Ministries to hold Conference

Midwest Harvest Ministries will be holding events this weekend, September 16th and 17th, at the Wings of Hope Stables 3223 Brandon Diagonal Blvd. in Brandon. Events include worship in music and various speakers. Pastor Charles Clark of the Hoover Church in Troy Mills, will be speaking on Saturday afternoon. As a child he was raised a Christian Scientist and later became a believer and follower of Jesus Christ.

Benton County Fair will be held a week later in 2012

  The Benton County Fair will be held one week later next year from July 25th - July 29, 2012. The same carnival "Sam's Amusements will be entertaining.   Mark it on your calendar now!

6th Annual Constitution Day Spotlights Rights, Responsibilities as Citizens

  Kirkwood Community College presents its sixth annual Constitution Day program on Friday, September 16, 2011, in celebration of the United States Constitution and its varied and diverse influences on our lives. This day also celebrates those who have become citizens through naturalization, or by coming of age, thus echoing one of Kirkwood’s designated general education goals: “Students will recognize the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

College Fair Brings Nearly 100 Colleges Together

  Day and night sessions at Kirkwood to accommodate more participants On Wednesday, Sept. 21, a Kirkwood Community College recreation facility will be transformed into a “higher education shopping mall,” in two different sessions. 1,200-1,500 prospective students and their parents can compare many college choices in one location.

9/11 memorial service to take place at the Courthouse 7 p.m. Sunday

Vinton area veterans will lead a 9/11 ceremony at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Benton County courthouse in Vinton. They will line up at the  new jail and march with the firemen pulling the old pumper to the front of the courthouse. There will be a brief ceremony.  Everyone is invited.

9/11 Memorial service planned at Spencer's Grove

'Idiot Jam' returns for Vinton to raise funds for Dollars for Scholars

Brian Parr plays his guitar at the 2010 'Idiot Jam.' The 2011 event takes place Saturday night.      The Seventh Annual Todd Frank Guitar Jam, also called the "Idiot Jam," will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, at the Vinton-Shellsburg high school auditorium, at  218 W 21st St in Vinton. There will be a free will offering to benefit the Vinton Area Dollars for Scholars. This is a nationwide assembly of people who have traveled to Vinton to put on a concert for the public,      This group started with an acoustic guitar player in Minnesota meeting another player from Wisconsin, who introduces him to yet another from Indiana.

PEO Chapter HG to meet Monday

  PEO Chapter HG will meet Monday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m.         at the home of Cindy Elwick. THios will be a salad supper         followed by the regular business meeting.

Iowa DNR to host hunter education at Izaak Walton

The Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources will be hosting a hunter education course at the Izaak Walton League north of Vinton.  The course will be two days beginning on Saturday September 17th and ending on Sunday September 18th.  Students 11 years of age and older are allowed to attend the classes.  Students should go the www.
