Party in the Park, Part 2: Spazmatics, fireworks set for Aug. 24

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is happy to announce that the Spazmatics will be performing after all on Sunday, August 24th.  The rain out portion of Party in the Park will be completed on that evening with a few adjustments.  The Spazmatics will provide some great entertainment for all ages and will be followed by the world class Bar Y Pyros.

Iowa ghost towns to be topic of Center Point program, Aug. 4

The Benton County Historical Society co-hosting a free program by Iowa author Linda McCann on the topic, "Interurban and Eastern Iowa Ghost Towns" at 7 p.m. Monday, August 4, at LJL Hall on Main Street.  The public is invited.  This program is in conjunction with John Swanson’s Over the Top vintage car tour and is co-hosted by the Center Point Historical Society.

Cattle Feeders Summer Seminar set for Aug. 11

MONTICELLO, Iowa -- Cattle prices are at an all-time high, but high prices don’t necessarily equate to high profits. With tight margins, it’s important for cattle feeders to focus on the management and marketing skills needed to maintain profitability. That’s why Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University is helping sponsor a Cattle Feeders Summer Seminar next month.

Night of Destruction: Trailer races, Wall of Fire to return to BC Fair Friday

The popular and entertaining Trailer Race returns to Vinton this Friday at the Fair. The popular trailer races are returning to the Benton County Fair this Friday night. Part of the “Night of Destruction” that includes drivers aiming their vehicles through a wall of fire, cars racing chained together (one facing forward, the other facing backwards), the trailer race event is not actually a race to see who finishes first.

Kids Night & Bingo at Farmers Market this Thursday

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting the annual Kids Fun Night & Bingo at the Farmers Market this Thursday, July 24th.  There will be games and fun for the kids including rides for the younger ones.  Everything will be free for the kids and we will also be playing Bingo for all ages. Next Thursday, July 31st, at the market we will be having our “Sweet as Gold” Night.

PEO MZ to meet July 28

PEO Chapter MZ will meet Monday, July 28, at 1:30, at the home of Pat Floyd assisted by Jo Schmidt.  Karen Schlue will present the program.

Magic Show and Workshop set for Aug. 6, at library

Rick Eugene will bring his Magic Show and Workshop to Vinton as part of the summer reading program. The presentation takes place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the library The public is invited.

Theatre Camp students prepare for weekend performances

The jesters make their introduction during rehearsal Friday morning. Sixty-one excited actresses and actors have been spending time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily learning songs, dances, and lines as a part of the production of “Merlin’s Apprentice and the Deadly Dragon” during the annual ACT 1 sponsored theatre camp.   Three young people from the Old Creamery Theatre Company have been teaching these students all week.

Harley raffle continues; Special Olympics Benefit ride set for Aug. 16

The Vinton Shellsburg United (VSU) Special Olympics parents and volunteers are continuing to sell raffle tickets for a brand new Harley Davidson motorcycle, and t-shirts about the fund-raiser.   Order forms for our annual benefit for shirts are now available, says Kris Kramer.   The deadline for shirt ordering is Aug.
