The Center Point Historical Society was begun in 1975 as a Bicentennial project. The Society has historically met on the last Tuesday of the month. No more. At its—Tuesday—August 26 meeting the group voted to change meeting nights to the last Thursday of the month, beginning Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014.

Because the Society now proudly counts a mayor and a city councilman among its members it wanted a night not conflicting with city council meetings. The group will continue to meet at 7 p.m. at the Depot Museum.

The group also worked on plans for its 4th annual Center Point Cemetery Walk which will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. Admission will be $6. The Walk is about 2 blocks long one-way. Those with mobility problems are to arrange for their own golf carts. Guests are invited to carry along their own lightweight lawnchairs. In case of rain, the Walk will be held at the Depot Museum with projected gravesite photos.

Those dear departed to be visited are Ida Grubbs, Kathleen Bromwell, Minerva Ashlock, Jake Floyd, Harry Brookman, Ike Newland and Chuck Oxley.

The Society also decided to change the time of the annual Harvest Potluck. This year’s event will be Sunday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. It will be held in partnership with the CP Legion and Auxiliary to honor World War II veterans and their families. All veterans and community members are invited. Watch for the announcement of the location.
