The Presbyterian Church of Vinton will celebrate the beginning of its program year with a variety of events this coming Sunday, Sept. 14. Rally Day, or Rally Sunday, is the traditional name for the beginning of the church program year as people return from their summer schedules.  While the church remains active during summer months, programming, events, and activities are more frequent during the school calendar year.

The 28th Annual Tri-State Agriculture Lender’s Seminar will be held on Wednesday, October 29th at the Midway Best Western Hotel in Dubuque, Iowa from 9:45 am – 3:00 pm. This year’s focus is on market outlooks for livestock, grains and dairy in addition along with the issues of crop budgeting, crop insurance and the farm bill. “Price risk management is getting to be the major variable for profitability in many commodity enterprises.

IOWA CITY (Aug. 11, 2014) — You may call your backyard forest your “grove” or your “woodland,” or it just may be those trees that shelter your house, but if you are concerned about the quality of your forest and want to learn how you can maximize the benefits your forest provides, please join us. Trees Forever and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources invite landowners who own woodlands smaller than 15 acres for a day of learning from local specialists.

The board of the Vinton-Shellsburg Fine Arts Century Club would like to extend an invitation to current members of the Vinton-Shellsburg Fine Arts Century Club and to prospective members of Vinton and surrounding communities to attend the annual meeting of the Vinton-Shellsburg Fine Arts Century Club on Monday, September 8. The meeting will take place in the Media Center at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School at 7:00 P.

Fall Festival Slated for September 21st in La Porte City Fall is in the air, and there is no better way to celebrate the delights of season than La Porte City Museum’s Fall Festival Sunday, September 21st, from 11-3. This old fashion family fun filled event has something for everyone and is jam packed with food, music, a variety of vendors, live demonstrations, and loads of free activities and entertainment.

The Two-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, September 20th. This is an 18-hole tournament that costs $60.00 per team. This includes green fees, flight prizes, lunch, shirt, goody bag, door prizes and stake prizes. Only the first 20 teams per tee time are guaranteed a spot. Tee times are 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Each group will be a foursome to help speed up play.

School is now back-in-session and the Vinton Skate & Activity Center is now in its 15th year as a VPRD facility. We think this calls for a party! To celebrate, the Vinton Skate & Activity Center will be hosting a Back-To-School Bash on Saturday, September 6th from 6-9 PM. For only $3, attendees can take part in skating AND unlimited mini golf! We will also have concession specials, 50 cent hotdogs and prize drawings all night long so make sure you round up your family for this can’t miss event!   September also means a fresh start to your workout regimen as cooler month draw near.

  Iowa author Linda Betsinger McCann will talk about her newly released book, Prohibition in Eastern Iowa, at Hawkins Memorial Library, 308 Main Street, La Porte City, on Tuesday, September 9, at 6 PM. Prohibition was a thirteen year period of time in U.S. history that changed many things, and affected how law enforcement is perceived in the 21st Century.

From 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, there will be an informational meeting on Social Security questions at the Vinton library. Representatives from the Social Security Administration will be on hand to discuss how Social Security is an essential part of retirement, disability and survivor benefit planning. Participants will also learn how to verify earnings history and how to create their own My Social Security account on the www.

The next Junior Parents Post Prom Meeting will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7, at  6:30 p.m. at Tilford Elementary. Hope to see you there!!
