Melissa Geiger to share Mercy Ship story at After 5 gathering
Vinton After 5 club's featured speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 6:15 p.m. will be Melissa Gieger. She will be sharing more about her experiences on the two trips she made as a nurse on the Mercy ship to Africa. Shirley Wheatley from Alton Ill. will be sharing her "Cups of Life" experiences through her cup collections. For reservations call Bev Citanio at 472-2171.
Volleyball Pink Night Oct. 7; survivors to meet Oct. 1 at Windsor Manor
Breast Cancer Survivors: There is a change of meeting date for October!! We will meet at Windsor Manor in the dining room at 5:30 WEDNESDAY, Oct. 1. We will plan to have a fun decorating activity for all who can attend. Please bring any ideas and craft supplies that you might have. Adult Volleyball League - Final Call!
Registrations are currently being accepted for the 2014-15 Adult Volleyball League with four divisions available: Mens, Coed, Women's Upper, Women's Lower. The deposit required is $20 and must be included with a registration form no later than Thursday, September 25th. Play will tentatively begin the week of October 12th.
VS Hall of Fame: Four to be inducted; reception set for Sept. 26
A reception honoring the four new Viking-Vikette Hall of Fame members will take place after the football game at the Vinton Country Club on Friday, Sept. 26.
The new inductees to be introduced during the Homecoming football game include:

VHS Class of 1964 plans 50th reunion
The Vinton High School Class of 1964 will hold its 50th reunion on Sept. 25-27, 2014. They will be at the Ray House (corner of 1st Ave. and 10th St.) on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon. All friends of the class are welcome to join them.
VPRD Punt, Pass & Kick contest set for Sept. 20
Youth ages 6-15 are invited to come out to the V/S High School Football Field to participate in the annual NFL Punt, Pass & Kick. This event will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, September 20, there is no cost to participate and both boys and girls are welcome. Registration forms be downloaded and completed at vprdzone.com and then submitted to the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department office by Friday, September 19.
Veterans to honor POW/MIA with special Friday ceremony
Friday September 19 is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. In honor of the day an Empty Table Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Veterans Park in Vinton at 6:30 PM, all are welcome to attend. In the event of rain the ceremony will be moved to the American Legion hall, 105 North R Ave., Vinton.
VINTON WOMENS CLUB: Annual Fall Dinner September 23
The Vinton Womens Club will hold their Annual Fall dinner at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Judge Van Zimmer will present a program on the History of Benton County, The dinner will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. For Reservations call: 472-2589. The dinner will start at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00 P.M.
