AmeriCorps NCCC team Cedar 1 is assisting with One Heartland until September 16 by assisting as camp counselors and with maintenance projects around the worksite. They are revitalizing the camp by beautifying the camp grounds and being positive role models for the campers.

Cedar 1 members are camp counselors which includes leading and setting up skill activities such as canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, fishing, hiking, gardening and helping with the goats. As counselors members are providing a safe environment for youth to grow and experience camp activities. In addition, the team has assisted with tasks such as dish duty, making name tags, cleaning the dining hall and setting up for meals.

After the month of July, Cedar 1 is mainly assisting with camp maintenance projects by replacing the decking of older cabins and damaged screen doors. This benefits the camp by revitalizing those areas and creating a more enriching experience for campers.

‘’This camp does so much for these participants by making them feel at home and creating a safe environment for kids to grow. It is amazing to be a part of it and be involved with that development,’’ says Cedar 1 member Miranda Hines from Salem, Oregon.

One Heartland’s mission is to serve children, youth and families facing significant health challenges or social isolation. They provide an environment where everyone feels appreciated, celebrated and free of stigma and discrimination, as well as helping promote growth and new learning opportunities.
