Cedar 1 started out their journey with the Girl Scout Camps of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois (GSEIWI) around 8 a.m. ready to work on the tasks that lay before them.

“This project is an amazing experience,” said Cedar 1 member Belle Kiley of Exeter, NH. “Assisting them with these projects will create a better, safer learning environment for Girls Scouts of all ages.”

With their tools in the back of the van, Cedar 1 arrives at their first project site on camp. There, a horse corral with a circumference of 520 feet of fencing awaits to be torn down and stacked for removal. Also awaiting Cedar 1 is approximately 1500 feet of wire fencing, 248 feet of that the team has already removed and rolled. The team is assisting GSEIWI with its preparations for renovations and modernizations, as they would like to cater to all Girl Scouts’ desires for a great camping experience.

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois encompasses almost 80 counties and hosts around 300 girls per week during the summer. With the efforts of Cedar 1, they are able to achieve their goal: to build girls of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.

Cedar 1 has been serving in various communities in Eastern Iowa on this project. They began their service at the end of June and will wrap it up on August 27.
