Travis Hanes, from Shelton, Washington is a corps member for Cedar 6 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 6 is made up of seven people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest.

When asked why he decided to serve in the NCCC program, Travis says, “ I wanted to help people and get some college assistance at the same time.”

Before Travis became a NCCC service member he was doing another service term in the NCCC.

Cedar 6’s third round project is at Camp Fire Southeast Michigan, in Holly, MI.

Cedar 6 will assist with specific projects including: management of invasive species in and around the 250 acre camp, general trail maintenance such as mowing trails, keeping brush cleared, and the disposal of debris. Members will also assist with summer camp activities for 5th and 6th grade students.
