The Palace is stacked this weekend, when “Morning Glory,” rated PG-13 and “Due Date,” rated R open Friday.

MORNING GLORY

“Morning Glory,” starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Jeff Goldblum, plays December 10th through the 16th every evening at 7 p.m., and Monday at 2 p.m.

“You know, this is the one about the morning news show, with Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams.” That’s been my stock answer every time someone has asked, “’Morning Glory?’ What’s that?”

I also keep calling this film “Marigold.” I think Hollywood needs to spend more time testing movie titles. I still have trouble remembering “Life As You Know It” or “Life As We Like It” or “Life As We Know It.” Yeah, that’s it – the last one.

Nobody ever knew what that movie was when I said the title, even when I got it right! But when I mentioned Katherine Heigl, that cute guy and the baby – oh, sure, you definitely wanted to see that one.

Anyway, even if the title isn’t resonating with you, I promise - “Morning Glory” is going to be great! Both Rachel McAdams and Harrison Ford are receiving rave reviews for their performances.

DUE DATE

Our other option this weekend is “Due Date,” the R-rated movie featuring Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, and northeast Iowa native Michelle Monaghan. This “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (Steve Martin, John Candy) wannabe received its rating for language, drug use and sexual content.

Galifianakis’ character, Ethan, is a goofy slacker whose bad luck seems contagious when he runs into, literally, Peter (Downey Jr.). Peter needs to get to his wife (Monaghan) who is about to give birth. As his car is destroyed, he accepts a lift from Ethan. If you’ve seen the classic “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” you can imagine what comes next.

This movie is great for an adult laugh. “Due Date” plays Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11 at 9 p.m., and Sunday, December 12 at 2 p.m.

Get a sitter for the kids and take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle this weekend for a movie stack at the Palace. Two in a row – who’s with me?!
