Business : Cedar Valley Times earns several awards at INA Convention

Congratulations to Molly Wade, Micah Bader, Angie McFarland and the staff of the Cedar Valley Times on their awards from the 2013 Iowa Newspaper Association Convention.

The Vinton newspaper received a first place award for best video among newspapers in the Weekly 2 category (circulation between 1,301 and 2,200). Molly Wade received a first place plaque in the Master Columnist competition for her weekly "Woolgathering with Molly" column and a second place certificate for Best Personality Feature. She also received third place awards in both the Best Photo competition and the Best Breaking News Photo competition. Angie McFarland received a third place award in the Best Photo competition. Micah Bader, who left the Vinton Newspapers in December for a sports editor job closer to his Minnesota hometown, received a third place award in the Best Sports Photo category.

The Times also received a first place award for Best Ad Featuring Financial, Insurance, or Other Professional Service and a second place award for Best Ad (miscellaneous).

The awards were part of the INA 2013 Better Newspaper Contests, which were judged by the South Dakota Newspaper Association. More than 4,100 entries in dozens of categories were judged by class, based on circulation.

Daily Class 1 is for newspapers published daily with 9,999 circulation and less. Daily Class 2 is for newspapers published daily with 10,000 circulation and more. Weekly Class 1 is for newspapers published weekly with 1,300 circulation and less; Weekly Class 2, 1,301 to 2,200 circulation; and Weekly Class 3, 2,201 and above circulation.
