VINTON -- It was a nearly perfect night at Garrison Fieldhouse. Everyone scored and the 12th-rated Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes moved to 13-2 for the season with a 70-18 blowout of South Tama Tuesday night.

The outcome was never in doubt. The Vikettes were up 21-4 after one period and pushed the lead to 43-9 at the half, paced by 12 first half points from sophomore Brylee Bruce. Channel 2 Ed Thomas Coach of the Week Rich Haisman cleared the bench for the bulk of the third quarter as the lead went to 49-12 after three and from there the Vikettes pulled away for the 52-point victory.

Bruce finished with 14 points to lead all scorers. Lucy Howes-Vonstein added 11, the Griffith girls -- Kayla and Alyssa -- added six each, Ashlie Meyer five, Josie Sagan, Julia Johnson, Grace Sutton and Kalie Burke four, Sophia Kreutner and Keria Ott three each, Kallea Christy and Aza Swayzer two and Abby Davis and Lexi Bunten one.

Coupled with the Vikette win, Center Point-Urbana's loss to Benton Community and Williamsburg's win over Clear Creek-Amana, the Vikettes now stand atop the WaMaC West going into a huge couple of weeks ahead. Next Tuesday they travel to Tiffin to take on CC-A, then a week from Tuesday -- after games with Oelwein next Thursday and Independence on Friday -- they cross the county line to take on the Stormin' Pointers.
