VINTON -- A wild fourth quarter, quite a few acrobatic defensive plays, and a raucous home crowd, just let of our Covid jail, still wasn't enough Friday night as Coach Joe Johnson's Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings dropped a heartbreaking 56-50 decision Friday night at Garrison Fieldhouse.

The Vikings (3-6, 1-6 in the WaMaC West) got out to an early 10-6 lead on the Mustangs, but it didn't hold for long. Indee dominated the rest of the half, outscoring the Vikes 29-7 to take a 35-17 into the halftime break.

V-S would cut the margin to four late in the game, but could draw no closer, as the Mustangs held for the 56-50 win.

David Lapan-Islas led the Vikings 15 points -- including four three-pointers -- while CJ Rickels and Ethan Rollinger each dropped 10. Ryan Moore added nine, Derron Hughes four and Kaden Kingsbury had two.

The Vikings have another busy week ahead for them. They host Benton Community tonight at 7:30, then travel to Tiffin tomorrow night to take on Clear Creek-Amana. Friday night the Vikes are on the road again as the take on Center Point-Urbana.
