It's been oddly interesting to watch the politics happening in Washington D.C. I have to admit I'm so burned out on politics that I haven't paid a ton of attention to the happenings. But the talk of the shutdown hits me odd. When there was a shutdown and the republicans were holding things up, I heard, "keep it shut down!" Now when the democrats are doing it, I hear, "how awful!"

Catherine Clark, a Democrat from Massachusetts, was speaking with an interviewer she explained the situation, I thought quite honestly. Now that's something you don't see in Washington D.C. She said, "Of course, there will be families that are going to suffer. But it is one of the few leverage times we have."

Simply put. I mean come on, we all know that this is literally "playing politics." We all know that the government will reopen, and we've given you time to play your part as the "serious party," we allowed time for your nonsense protests, now get back to work!

Mind you in all of this, the elected officials in Washington D.C. are getting their paychecks. The millionaires like Bernie Sanders are out there yelling about the "oligarchy" and how his coconspirators can't afford to go without a paycheck, but our military, can. After all, the military is only out there putting their actual lives on the line for us, so they don't need a paycheck - in his mind, but his poor co-workers that are in charge of this mess, are fine with causing the rest of the world pain.

Clark said it clearly, it's all about leverage. It has nothing to do with paychecks and passing the same bill they have 13 times already. It's about causing you pain so that they can get their way aka leverage.

Grow up. I'm tired of all of the elected toddlers throwing a tantrum when they don't get their way. No, folks, we don't have trillions of dollars laying around for your latest ideas. News flash, the country is trillions of dollars in the hole right now, and no one is getting serious about that.

So stop fooling around. Stop playing games. Put on the big boy and girl pants and get serious. Sit down at the table and start talking. This time instead of being good with causing Americans pain for your "leverage" let's get serious. Let's look at the American checkbook. The one in Washington D.C. and the one in my house, and everyone else's house.

Stop putting on a show and grow up. The party's over, it's time to act like adults. You signed the exact same bill 13 times. We get it, you now have "leverage" at OUR cost, and that doesn't bother you.

We get it. We really do.

SW October 29, 2025, 12:16 pm Valerie,
You are not a journalist. Your little online hate rag is despicable.

Editor's note:
Thanks!
That might be the greatest compliment. I don't want to be one of 'them!'
But thanks for reading AND commenting!
jt October 25, 2025, 12:38 pm It seems a "line in the sand" has been drawn regarding the negotiation process to open the government. Each party has their own line and not willing to draw them closer because of a lack of trust in the other party. We have had this happen before, but this time feels different. Over the last 10 years, so much emphasis has been put on the failings of our government, repeated fears of immigrants, LGBTQ, other religions, education, and accepted health practices. When the ACA was begun, we knew there would have to be tweaks along the way to keep it functioning. All Congress has provided is votes to abolish this without any alternative solution, leaving millions without that lifeline. Billions of tax dollars are now being spent on military actions, meaningless DOJ lawsuits, bailouts to other countries, and White House construction projects. Congress needs to be in town, listen to their voters (not their president) and do whatever it takes to open the government, then have serious negotiations to overcome this problem. One solution suggested is salary stops for all of congress employees during a shut down. I guarantee this would never happen again!
PS October 25, 2025, 10:39 am Let me fix that for you!

"Why any political representative would hold American citizens hostage to get benefits for Non American citizens is beyond my selfish racist reasoning."

A bit more honest?
ME October 24, 2025, 4:39 pm The "benefits for non-americans" is paying for Emergency room services - guaranteeing that everyone is seen in timely without waiting on a lengthy verification of citizenship, insurance, hefty bank account. As Reagan required as of roughly 40 years ago. Funny how it's only become a problem now that someone told you it has.
CC October 24, 2025, 11:00 am Well said Editor. We elected a new administration to put American citizens at the top of the political agenda. Why any political representative would hold American citizens hostage to get benefits for Non American citizens is beyond my patriotic reasoning.
