James “Jim” Bascom, 79, of The Villages, FL, passed away on January 19, 2026.
He will be laid to rest at St. John Cemetery in Newhall, Iowa on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 12:00 PM.
Jim was born August 29th,1946, in Dysart, IA, the son of Donald and Kathryn (Halway) Bascom. He graduated from Newhall High School, with the class of 1964. Following High School Jim joined the Army and served for 5 years. Jim worked in the Travel Industry for his entire career.
Jim is survived by his son Brad Bascom and wife Rachel Bascom of Leesburg, FL and daughter Jamie Graves and husband Wayne Graves of Grand Island, FL. Three grandchildren Jacob Bascom, Katie Bascom, and Keagan Graves. Jim was previously married to Jane Bascom. He is also survived by his uncle Vernon Bascom and several nieces and nephews Rick (Rebel) Rathje, Randy (Kim) Rathje, and Renee (Dan) Ellsworth, his great nieces and nephews Angelica Rathje and family, Chelsea Albright and family, Ross Ellsworth and family, Tanner Rathje, Carlee Ellsworth and his special friend Kathy Flood.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Kathryn Bascom, his sisters JoAnn Rathje, Donna Bascom, and Karla Bascom, and his brother-in-law Lee Rathje. As well as long time companion, Dianna Massey.
Jim was an active member of The Iowa Club and The Parrot Heads, he was avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoyed golfing and had a love for traveling.
He was devoted to his family and friends, who brought him purpose, comfort, and joy. He never met a stranger. He treasured each connection and left behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and kindness.
