Yvonne Fry Weideman, 94, of Vinton, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, with her daughter, Ann, by her side.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Vinton, with Pastor Darrian Adkins officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church, prior to the service. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Yvonne and her family.
Yvonne was born April 22, 1931, in Vinton, the daughter of Leland and Nelda (Davin) McCandless. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1949 and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College, graduating in 1953 with degrees in music and education.
On June 12, 1953, she married Jack Reiss Fry in El Paso, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1989. She later married D.C. Weideman on July 5, 1999, in Vinton. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2004.
Yvonne devoted 25 years to teaching as an elementary music teacher in the Vinton school system, sharing her love of music with generations of students.
Music remained an important part of her life beyond the classroom. She was a longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church choir, a member of Martha Circle, Mission Stitchers, and founded and directed the church’s handbell choir for several years. She was also active in Early Arts and the Mentor Literature Club. Yvonne enjoyed reading, collecting antiques, flower gardening, and especially spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Clark Fry (Susan Meidlinger) of Council Bluffs; daughter, Ann Fry Gordon (Larry Kettler) of Vinton; daughter-in-law, Wendy Fry of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Adrian (Jordan) Fry and Sydney (Nik) Ridder; stepchildren, Don (Peggy) Weideman, Eleanor Dilkes, Nina (Carl) Swanson, and Cathy (John Gardner) Weideman; and fourteen step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her son, Mark Fry; and stepdaughter, Mary Weideman.
Memorials may be directed to the Vinton Public Library, the Palace Theatre, or Wesley United Methodist Church.
