Virgil R. Witt, Sr., 84 of Belle Plaine, IA passed away, Saturday, January 3, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a sudden illness. 

Virgil was born November 9, 1941 to Lloyd M. Witt and Ruth M. (Janss) Witt at the Vinton hospital. He completed his GED.  

Virgil was united in marriage to Helen M. Risner on February 21, 1961 at St. Andrew Lutheran church in Van Horne. He worked for Funks G Hybrids in Belle Plaine until the plant closed in 1994.  He then worked for Benco Manufacturing in Belle Plaine until his retirement.  

Virgil loved to bowl, travel, take camping trips with family, fishing, doing jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and playing solitaire. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school concerts and sporting events. After retirement, he began attending craft shows all over the state of Iowa with his woodworking lawn and garden crafts and other projects.   

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen of Belle Plaine; daughter, Lisa (Earnest Jr) Cubbage of Belle Plaine; son, Virgil Ray Witt, Jr. of Marshalltown; sister, Janet (Tom) Berger of Newhall and grandchildren, Katherine Cubbage, Dylan Witt, and Kylee (Justin Abernathy) Witt. 

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ruth Witt; in-laws, Henry and Minnie (Phillips) Risner; sister-in-law, Connie Risner; brother-in-law, Jerry Wisecarver; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Sylvia Fay Risner.  

Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine, IA. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine. 

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 7th at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
