Richard “Rick” Franklin Baker passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Atkins, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born on April 8, 1955, in San Diego, California, the son of William and Anna (Broom) Baker.
In high school Richard belonged to “The Knights of Columbus” boxing club and enjoyed watching boxing in his free time. After graduation, Richard served honorably in The United States Army in the 1970’s. He was member of “UA Local 125 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union” of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He enjoyed going to the gun range, his favorite beer, Miller Lite, and spending time with loved ones and friends. Richard loved to study American history and was a patriot that admired American rights and ideologies. He was always willing to help anyone in need, had a deep genuine love for his family, and cherished relationships through the decades with his closest lifelong friends. He adored his daughter and had always remarked that his greatest accomplishment in life was becoming a father. His faith in Christ provided him strength and comfort throughout life.
Rick had a fantastic sense of humor and could make almost anyone laugh. He was a truly unique character that will be absolutely impossible to replace and to say he will be missed is an understatement. The void left behind by his passing will never be filled, but we will love and remember him always.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Cindi (Joe) Gagliardi; brother, Everett (Wanda) Baker; niece, Cheryl (Travis) Mastin; and former wife and close friend, Vicki Baker
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Eric Baker.
