David Ray Dawes, 63, of Ely, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
A funeral service celebrating David’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with Celebrant Jim Coyle officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the chapel.
David is survived by his loving wife, Jolene Dawes of Ely; his daughters, Amanda Dawes (Eric), Jenna Busch (Ben), and Kelsey Dawes; his grandchildren, Caleb (Olivia), Katelyn, Avani, Kason, Fox, Wilhelm, and Hanna; his siblings, Elaine Gilbert (Cecil), Ron Dawes, Gena Neal (Todd), and Lueann Jones; and his best friends, Tom and Holly Njus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rick Dawes.
David was born on July 17, 1962, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Eugene Dawes and Barbara Bobzien (Holub). He was the owner of DC Chimney, where he worked for many years as a chimney specialist, taking great pride in his craftsmanship and service.
David’s favorite moments were often simple ones: watching the deer he fed in his backyard, cheering on the Hawkeyes and Patriots, playing cards, and most of all, time spent with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
