James C. Bottema, 76, of La Porte City, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, in Waterloo.

He was born August 18, 1947, in Marshalltown, and raised by his parents, William "Bill" and Leona Selken Bottema on the farm outside of Mount Auburn. James served honorably in both the US Marine Corps and the US Army Reserves. He married Yvonne Wiest on May 23, 1970, at Blessed Sacrament in Waterloo. James worked as a tool grinder for Viking Pump in Cedar Falls. James was a member of the La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post 207. He loved spending his time fishing and making fishing lures, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed traveling.

James is survived by his wife, Yvonne of La Porte City; daughter, Nicole (Stacy) Bushman of Fort Atkinson; sons, James W. Bottema of Cedar Falls, and Robert (Molly Schiel) Bottema of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Kendra Bushman; sisters, Joyce Zach of Marion, and Jackie Dunlap of Marble Rock; sisters-in-law, Elaine Graves of Highland, CA, and Yvette Bridgewater of Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and birth parents, Norita Clark and Martin Grove; and a half-brother and half-sister.

Graveside Services with inurnment to take place 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Mount Auburn. A Celebration of Life will follow 12:00 - 2:00 PM at the La Porte City American Legion, 302 Cedar St, La Porte City. Military honors by the US Marines Corps and La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post 207. Memorials may be directed to the family.
