Susan Eileen Selk, age 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Rehab Center of Lisbon with her family by her side.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. Funeral services will be held at 10 :30 AM, Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.

Susan was born on December 25, 1950, in New Hampton, the daughter of Wendel and Norma (Nicholson) Wahl. Her father had predicted her birth would come on Christmas. Susan was united in marriage to Don Selk on March 31, 1973, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Don and Susan lived in Keystone for 2 years and have resided at the farm home north of Keystone. Don and Susan adopted their daughter Stephanie from Columbia, when she was 6 months old and have lived as a family of three ever since.

Susan began her career in the medical field with Dr. Steinbeck for 9 years. She later worked at St. Luke's Hospital for 10 years and finally at Exam One, retiring in 2020. Susan was a breast cancer survivor and was diagnosed with ALS through hereditary screening.

Susan was an active member of the Keystone American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years, joining in 1973. She proudly served as the District 3 President of the Auxiliary. She was an avid crafter, seamstress, and made quilts for others. She operated Sews Creations, from her home, using her sewing talents. Susan was an excellent cook and loved to bake in her spare time.

She is survived by her husband Don of Dysart; daughter Stephanie Selk of Dysart; granddaughter, Sarah Selk of Van Horne; and her brother, Richard (Valerie) Wahl of Johnston, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 brothers, Dennis Wahl, and Wesley Wahl.
