Surrounded by her loving family, Phyllis Clare Davis, 94, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 21 at Blessed Hope Church, Vinton, with Pastor David Condry officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Phyllis and her family.
Phyllis was born October 2, 1928 in Tama County, the daughter of Donald and Faye (Overturf) Heaton. She attended school in Vinton and graduated from Lincoln High School. On October 20, 1946, Phyllis was united in marriage to Dick Davis. She was employed as a secretary in the Vinton school system and then as a sales associate for Davis Family Shoes.
Phyllis enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, crocheting, crafting, golfing, playing pool, wintering in Mission, TX with Dick and spending time with her family. She was a member of Blessed Hope Church and involved in many activities there.
Left to cherish memories of Phyllis are her sons: David (Kristie) of Vinton, Michael (Michelle) of Sanborn, IA, William (Bette) of Liberty, MO and Robert (Laura) of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren: Michelle (Ed) Lovetinsky, Ryan (Melanie) Davis, Jamie (Ryan) Johnson, Jada (Douglas) Hinrickson, Lauren Davis, Jennifer (Matthew) Voth and Luke (Ellen) Davis; and her sixteen great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "G.G."
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 73 years, Dick; and brother, Howard.
A memorial fund has been established.
