John "Jay" Cecil Frimml Jr., 49, of North Liberty, formerly of Blairstown, IA passed away September 10, 2023, in Iowa City, IA.

John was born September 9, 1974, in Marengo, IA to John Cecil Sr. and Susan (Newton) Frimml. He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1992. Following school, Jay enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corps. Upon return of his first service overseas, he was stationed in California where he met Kimberly Thomas. On December 20, 1995, they were married in Las Vegas. Shortly after Jay served his country overseas for the second time.

Upon his return the couple settled in Belle Plaine, IA and were blessed with twin daughters. He held a variety of jobs around the Belle Plaine area including his work as a diesel mechanic for CRST.

In his youth Jay was a black belt in Taekwondo. As he grew older, so did his love for loud music, with the radio blasting hard rock and many hours spent playing guitar. Jay had a good sense of humor, a trait he passed to his daughters. He was witty, loved to scare people and could tell a great story.

Throughout all of his struggles, Jay was always loyal to friends and loved with his whole heart. He was self-less in his desire to help and protect others, and his ability to trust and see the good in all people.

He is survived by his daughters, Kaitlyn Frimml of Coralville, Kandice Frimml of Van Horne; grandchildren, Thomas Newcomb and Kaysun Kemps; siblings, Steven (Carla) Frimml, Stacy (Ken) DeFauw both of Belle Plaine, Jean (Steve) Sullivan of Grand Junction, CO, Joseph (June) Frimml of Des Moines, Marica (Jr.) Cook of Cedar Rapids, Mary Frimml (Kadhum) of Belle Plaine; and many nieces and nephews.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother, James "Hank" Frimml.

A celebration of life is 9-11 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, IA, with time for sharing at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine with military honors.

The family would like to thank the VA for their compassionate care they showed Jay for many years.
