Obituaries : Michael "Mike" Dennis Shea

Michael Dennis Shea (Mike Shea) 60, of Marion, died Monday, August 28, 2023 at his home. Services: 10:00a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Nicholas March. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service. Celebration of life will be held after at Esco Electric in Cedar Rapids. Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Michael and his family. Family request casual dress.

Mike is survived by his four children Stacey (Joshua) D'Amico of Cedar Rapids, Micayla (Jeremy) Lemke of Belle Plaine, MN, Morgan Westerfield of Mankato, MN and Michael Shea of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Olivia D'Amico, Andre Westerfield, April Westerfield, Adrian Shea and Phoenix Dixon; six siblings, Lissa Shea, Jamie Shea, Kerry Nelsen, Chris Hunt, Sean Shea, John Shea; mother, Mary Shea; And endless family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and sister, Bridget Shea. The family finds comfort in knowing that Mike was welcomed to Heaven by his father and sister. We can only imagine the reunion they are having.

Mike was born on January 14, 1963 son of John Francis and Mary Theresa (Kilsdonk) Shea in Cedar Rapids. Mike graduated from LaSalle High School in 1981, and attended trade school to become an electrician. He was united in marriage to Genise Haugen in 1986 they later divorced in 1995, later Mike married Kristin Carroll on April 3, 1997 they later divorced in 2016. Mike was an electrician and worked for various companies and was a member of the Electrician Union Local 405 and at one point served as president. He enjoyed Hunting for deer and mushrooms, fishing,and was an avid Hawkeye football and basketball fan.

Mike was best described as a professional prankster, even from a young age he was busy causing a ruckus. He loved to build, which paired well with his creative imagination when making things for his children. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak his words were powerful. Mike didn't like to take life too seriously, and that was obvious in the way he lived; with purpose but carefree. Every Christmas you could find him hanging out at the kids table. During family gatherings he would often be found conspiring with his nieces and nephews. He was proud of his Irish heritage and even traveled to Ireland multiple times to see the Shea Homestead. He loved watching old western and horror movies. Mike was strong in his faith and passed those values to his children. If you ever did see Mike around town, you probably saw him in his overalls, Hawkeye sweatshirt and skull cap beanie. Mike will best be remembered for his laugh because when he laughed, his joy was contagious, and his smile would light up the sky.
