Kathleen "Kate" Marie (Lauterwasser) Thompson, 93, of Newhall, Iowa, went to meet her Savior Jesus Christ on December 12, 2022. 

 

She was born on November 27, 1929, to Ervin and Irene (Senne) Lauterwasser on the farm near Van Horne, Iowa. 

 

She graduated from Newhall High School in 1947.  For a time, she worked at National Oats in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She married Harold Thompson on September 11, 1949. They enjoyed 68 years together, full of family, farming, church, and community activities. 

 

She is remembered as a kind, patient, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She enjoyed serving at her church, St. John in Newhall, Iowa, and in the community - volunteering, sewing/quilting, Tabitha Society, church choir, gardening, and traveling to her children's and grandchildren's many activities. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, and her brothers Lewis Lauterwasser, Kenneth Lauterwasser and his wife, Colleen.  She was also preceded in death by her husband's immediate family, Glen and Marj Thompson and Marlyn and Mary Jane Thompson.

 

She is survived by her nine children:  Sue (Dave) Drugg, Steve (Patti ) Thompson, Sandy (Dave) Glienke, Shari (Marc) Moeller, Scott (Becky) Thompson, Stella (Calvin) Wolter, Shirley (Dick) Paul, Sally (John) York, and Sara Thompson (Gary Osborne), 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Rozella Lauterwasser and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Steven W. Rempfer officiating.  Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery, rural Newhall. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Mission Central and Orphan Grain Train.
