Betty was born November 10, 1925 in the Brooklyn area, the daughter of Clarence and Myrene (Simmons) Shedenhelm. She attended country school in the Marengo area. On April 19, 1945, Betty married Eldo Carlson in Watkins. Making their life together as a "farming couple", Eldo and Betty made their home in Watkins, Mt. Auburn and Brandon.

Betty loved the outdoors. She was in her realm of happiness when she was tending to her flower and vegetable garden, raising chickens and selling eggs, bird watching or fishing with Eldo. Betty also loved her family. Even though she loved her children endlessly, the love she had for her grandbabies (or any babies for that matter) was immeasurable.

Betty is survived by two sons: Gerald (Sandy) Carlson of Clarion and Alan (Lynn) Carlson of Brandon; two daughters: Kathy (Steve) Draisey of Kansas City, MO and Marilyn Panosh of Littleton, CO; daughter-in-law, Peggy Carlson of Waterloo; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Eldo; two sons: Eldon and Richard Carlson; one great-granddaughter, Olivia; and seven siblings.

A memorial fund has been established.
