Max O. Kimm, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Colonial Manor in Amana.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown with Rev. Jeffrey Schanbacher officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, also at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
Max was born, on August 6, 1929, in rural Benton County, the son of Martin and Helen (Slaymaker) Kimm and graduated from Blairstown High School with the class of 1948. On May 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marceil Williams at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown.
Max owned and operated Kimm's DX in Blairstown, which he founded in 1948. He was very proud of his family business, working alongside his wife Marceil, his brothers, Dean and Doug and later, his son Marty. Max was very active in his community, as a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, and a founding member of the Blairstown Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. Max and Marceil loved to winter in Arizona for over 30 years, attending Chicago Cub spring training games, and enjoying the warm weather. Max was an avid, bordering on rabid, Cub fan.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Knight of Cedar Rapids, Lynn (Mark) Gielau of Denver, IA; sons Marty Kimm, and Barry (Theresa) Kimm, all of Blairstown; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and his sister, Audrey (Ron) Yardley of Marengo.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife and best friend Marceil in 2015; and his brothers, Dean and Doug Kimm.
